Rook’s Nest Farm was the home of artist Darsie Japp, who in the early 1920s gave up painting to farm and breed racehorses in Berkshire. He was a friend of the Spencer brothers, and this painting was acquired by Percy Spencer, the next brother in age to Gilbert and Stanley.
