Conversation Alt. title: Conversation Piece

This is probably the painting exhibited at the Leicester Galleries in 1943 as 'Conversation'. By the time it was exhibited at Reading in 1964 the title had changed to 'Conversation Piece', creating potential confusion with Spencer's 1963 oil painting of the same title, also exhibited at Reading in 1964 (93). It is stylistically similar to other of Spencer's paintings of the early 1940s.
