Busk How, Little Langdale

Busk How, Little Langdale

This landscape has been recently identified as Busk How, Little Langdale, exhibited at the Leicester Galleries in 1946.  Around the same time, Spencer also painted Busk, Little Langdale. In a handwritten note to the exhibition catalogue, he distinguished them as 'lane' and 'farm'; the present painting can be identified as 'farm'. It is possible that Spencer had misheard the name of the farmhouse, as it is known as Busk House, not Busk How. The farm is now cared for by the National Trust.
