This is one of at least three landscapes painted in South Buckinghamshire in c. 1934, the others being North Dean (c. 1934, untraced) and Hughenden Valley (1934, Leeds Museums and Galleries). This view of Courns Wood was painted from Piggotts Hill on the other side of the valley, across Upper North Dean. The oil painting is untraced; the image is taken from a large colour print, signed by the artist.
