Ladywood from Grasmere

Painted while Spencer was staying at Ladywood, the home of Professor Ernest de Selincourt, while he was evacuated to Ambleside with the Royal College of Art. The catalogue of Spencer's Reading exhibition (1964) erroneously states that this was exhibited at the RA in 1944 or 1945, but the painting actually exhibited at the RA was Grasmere and Red Bank in 1945 (248).
