Study of figures in a spring landscape

This small landscape study had been framed on top of an oil study for Troops in the Countryside (c. 1941-3, private collection). This landscape was painted much later, however, as indicated by the canvas stamp 'WINTON/ PREPARED BY/ WINSOR & NEWTON', produced in the 1960s.
