Study for Flower Show Day, Witchampton (alt. titles: The Flower Show, Harvest Festival)
This is a preparatory drawing for the monumental oil painting of the same title (1932, private collection). When painting imaginative figure compositions, Spencer customarily worked out the composition through a series of drawings and cut-out figures, then squared the finished composition for transfer to canvas, as is the case with this drawing.
