Portrait of John Gerald Bradshaw


Spencer drew this portrait of his future father-in-law while he was courting his daughter. He wrote, 'The drawing took rather a long time, and it is an interesting one. When it was finished Ursula showed it to Mr Bradshaw, and told him that I wished to marry her. To his inquiry 'Can he support you?' she replied 'No!' (Spencer 1974, p. 95).
