Portrait of Sir Edwin Deller (alt. title: Portrait of a Gentleman)

Sir Edwin Deller (1883-1936) was a university administrator, serving as Academic Registrar and then Principal of the University of London. It is likely that Spencer knew him from his time at the Slade School of Art, part of the University of London. Deller was tragically killed in November 1936 in an accident sustained while showing visitors around the new Senate House building, which was then under construction.
