Based on its style and subject matter, this painting may be the work exhibited at the NEAC in 1947 as Threat of Invasion (138). However, it is close in palette and technique to works of the 1930s such as Terwick Mill (1932, private collection) and Garsington Girl (c. 1938, private collection).
