Culcreuch, Stirlingshire
Painted from Gilbert and Ursula Spencer's lodgings in Culcreuch Castle, near Glasgow, 'in which the happiness and homeliness of our life together again … was reflected in what I saw and painted.' When submitted to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1950, it secured him immediate election as an Associate. The painting is presently untraced, and known only from a photograph in the Gilbert Spencer Archive, held in the Arts University Bournemouth.
