Dunsden
Incorrectly spelled as ‘Dunsdon’ in the Goupil Gallery catalogue of 1923 (no. 19), this almost certainly depicts a view of Dunsden Green near Reading. It is one of a group of local landscapes painted in 1921-2 while Spencer was living in Caversham near Reading. He was lodging with Mabel and Tom Nash, a contemporary of Stanley Spencer at the Slade School of Art. According to The Times' exhibition review (6 January 1923), this untraced painting is 'full of light'.
